Weddings: style can be either documentary or a mix of styles that includes posed/more formal and non-posed/documentary. The studio also has a videographer that can film the wedding, edit the film and create a DVD for the couple. We can photograph in either film or digital. Other options include all images on a CD, have all pictures from the wedding printed into 4x6 prints, parent books, bridal wedding album, putting all pictures online, etc. There are many options, all the bride has to do is ask and we are probably equipped to do it.

Events: head of studio is a former news photographer and besides numerous Press Assoc. awards has photographed events for a variety of corporations including Northwest Airlines, Guidant Corp., and the University of MN. Quick turnaround in either print or online digital format.

As a working photojournalist for over twenty years, my work has been published in numerous magazines and newspapers where I learned to concentrate on capturing the essence, or what I call “the spirit of the day” in my work. And I learned that skill well enough to win three Press Association awards.

I became involved with wedding photography about fifteen years ago. Friends asked me to document their wedding day with images that captured the spontaneity of their day rather than the posed, generic images produced by most wedding photographers. Happy with my non-traditional approach, they recommended me to others. One wedding led to another and eventually into a full time pursuit.

My style is more or less non-directed. Your wedding day is documented as a timeline story rather than a series of group pictures. I go beyond the stiff, "three hours of photography before the ceremony" approach, and allow you to be yourself while I capture the reality of your day as it unfolds.

Okay, but most folks still want some group photos (especially of the family and the wedding party). I'm happy to photograph as many or as few groups as you wish. My approach is to stay relaxed and give people a chance to do the same. The whole point is to replace the stiff, posed look with a relaxed, fun look that people can relate to.

Do you like black and white photography? I've worked with black and white films and papers for the past twenty-five years. If you're interested in a great classic look, I'd be happy to show you some examples of what I do, including hand-coloring of prints.

Something I do that I don't see many wedding photographers do is use an assistant. I'm surprised; an assistant really allows me to concentrate on you, rather than on my equipment, a big plus for all of us!
