Specializing in affairs under 25 people, as well as intimate gatherings with the chef attending to your needs throughout the party.

Also available are Cooking classes for individuals or groups, short-term private chef service, and menu/kitchen consulting. Party ideas such as wine/food pairings, tapas parties, bachelorette parties, cooking demonstration parties, and great as a gift for a non-cooking friend.

    John DeSimone is the chef-owner of Po Cucina catering.

    John was born and raised in Brooklyn NY, a flight of stairs away from his Sicilian grandparents. Their culinary heritage was an essential part of family life and John began helping out in the kitchen at an early age.

    Cooking, although close to his heart, was not his first career. After 10 years as a telecommunication engineer for Verizon, John realized that his passion to be a chef could no longer be denied. With the support of his wife Elin, John enrolled in the Peter Kumps New York Cooking School on West 23rd Street in Manhattan.

    After graduating at the top of his class, John ventured to Rome to experience the art of Italian cuisine, firsthand. Upon returning, John accepted a position at Mario Batali’s Lupa Osteria in the heart of Greenwich Village.

    John has further enriched his cooking repertoire by working in other restaurants such as: Lumi, Pazo, AZ, CornerShop, and Merrion Square. His non-restaurant work includes working at the Italian Culinary Institute as sous chef, recipe tester, food stylist, and instructor to cooking classes. Currently his time is dedicated to Po Cucina and as executive chef of the Manhatten Steam Boat Company.

    John has also become versed in personal catering, private chef, kitchen design, menu consulting and party planning.

    Currently residing in the Upper East Side of Manhattan, John is available for any small party needs, cooking lessons, food & wine tasting, cocktail parties, and demonstration classes. And this is not just in the sphere of Italian cuisine. Access to many of the best components in ethnic cuisine is part of the New York City experience. John takes full advantage of this by eagerly searching for the right ingredients by shopping in such ethnic havens as Chinatown, Flushing, Astoria, Yorkville, Brighton Beach, Bensonhurst, and Little Italy.
