When did you start Anointed Affairs?
I started Anointed Affairs after helping plan and organize several retirement and promotion ceremonies. I was the Deputymanding General's secretary, and my duties included planning and coordinating luncheons, briefings, retirement and promotion ceremonies. I have also used my talents to negotiate contracts and work with vendors. Later, I planned my best friend's wedding in four months. From then on, I have been known as the wedding and event planner by family and friends.
From this, I was inspired to enroll in the Wedding and Event Professional Course with the U.S. Career Institute where I graduated with honors.
What is your background and expertise in event planning?
At Anointed Affairs (headquartered in Waldorf, MD), our experience and expertise allow us to aodate clients looking to plan upscale, large events, small, laid-back beach events and everything in between. We stand on the principle that impeccable service should still be affordable. Our goal is to give you the event of a lifetime that will leave your guests raving for years toe. To do this, we customize each event to your personal needs.
I am also certified in Floral Design, Event Planning and Interior Decorating.
How long have you been planning events?
I have been planning events for over 15 years, and I am retiring from the Washington, D.C. National Guard soon. While in the National Guard, I have had the opportunity to produce corporate holiday parties, product launches, fundraisers, festivals, weddings, reunions and many more specialized parties. I ventured into the wedding arena because I love working with brides.
How did you decide to be an event planner?
After working for themand Group at the Armory, I realized I had the knowledge and the expertise to create fabulous celebrations and spectacular settings thatplemented the love of friends and family at birthdays, retirements, anniversaries and weddings.
Why did you choose to start your ownpany instead of working for anotherpany?
I have coordinated events successfully and had to ask myself, Why don't I do it for money?
I asked myself how much of a difference I was making in my previous position. Then I imagined the difference I could make as a business owner. As the owner of Anointed Affairs, I have the opportunity to be an employer and make a difference in the lives of the people I hire. As my business gains more success, I will also have the financial ability to contribute to needy and important charities or even fund my own charitable foundation.
Many times I've heard people say, You're so talented you should start a business! My family and friends know that I'm the planner and organizer among them I see and envision the whole picture.
It is a lot of fun doing something you truly like. It brings more joy into your life when you have something positive to look forward to. I have always had the desire to start a home-based business and be an independent entrepreneur.
With any job, you must look at your current living situation and ask yourself, What lifestyle would you prefer? I was ready for a positive change from my current position! I felt trapped-- and needed a way out. I love to create magic, and I enjoy helping others in a positive environment. Now I can share in the experience of couples celebrating those precious moments and happy family events.
And in the uncertain times that this country has faced over the last few years, people need family connection and observances. People are still getting married, still having babies and still looking torward the future. Anointed Affairs absolutely loves being a part of that!
