Profile
Chrissy and Joe, along with their children (Matthew, Nabeela, Eric and Michelle) and animals, are known as the Reptile Family. The Reptile Family brings to your home, school or business, their exotic collection of 18-25 Reptiles, Amphibians and Arachnids. Presented in a nurturing, hands-on format, their gentle pets will delight as well as educate. Their show is appropriate for all ages and intellects. They are dependable, insured, and have references.
Captive born and raised, these animals possess calm and gentle natures. When the Reptile Family arrives at your school, party, or business, in their Jeep Cherokee, they dress in safari attire and the showmences with the set-up. The animals are safely concealed in baskets and containers creating a mood of anticipation.
Every child and adult chooses for him/herself to look, touch, or hold the pets. We show how to handle these wonderful creatures with gentleness and respect. At the end of the presentation, Joe reminds everyone to leave wild animals alone. Even though all of our pets have bathed, we bring antibacterial hand soap. It's good hygiene to clean hands after handling any animal.
Joe, a herpetoculturist, has raised exotic animals since 1968. From bats to otters, boa constrictors to tarantulas, Joe's pets develop trust in humans as a result of his expert handling. As a child, he ventured to the creek on safari , sketching frogs, lizards, and snakes. Chrissy holds a master's degree and has been a teacher since 1977. Her background is in early childhood education, parent education, and fine arts. Chrissy shares her ever-growing family of pets with her students on a regular basis.
Nabeela and Matthew Steinberg and Thorsten Pape are teachers and Moorpark College Teaching Zoo Grads. John O'Gradey, Chrissy's brother, is the Uncle Buck of the reptile family. He is a graduate of Pepperdine University. The reptile family has entertained at The Natural History Museum, LA Children's Museum, Pre, Elementary, Middle and High School Classes, Science and Magnet Programs, TV audiences (the nationally televised Home and Family and Leeza Shows, Kid's Say The Darndest Things with Bill Cosby and Kid's View) and Birthday Parties.
